The environment is more than the place where we live—it is the air we breathe, the water we depend on, the land we share and the natural resources we leave for future generations.

The Greater Butts County Lions Club proudly supports Lions Clubs International’s global commitment to the environment. Lions around the world are encouraged to protect and restore the environment through hands-on service that creates healthier communities. 

For Lions, environmental service begins locally. A cleaner park, a newly planted tree, a bag of litter removed from a roadside or a community recycling effort may seem like a small act, but together these projects can create lasting change.

Trees are an important part of healthy communities. Lions International identifies tree planting and tree care as one of its major environmental service areas and encourages clubs to plant locally appropriate trees and care for young trees as they grow. 

Tree-planting projects can also bring Lions, families, schools and community organizations together around a common purpose.

Every tree planted is an investment in the future.

Environmental stewardship can begin with something as simple as picking up litter.

Lions International encourages environmental cleanup and restoration projects that remove debris and help protect natural habitats and communities from pollution. 

Lions clubs can make a difference through projects such as park cleanups, roadside beautification, river and lake cleanups, community workdays and other efforts that improve the places where people live, work and play.

When volunteers work side by side, a few hours of service can transform a community space.

Protecting the environment also means thinking about what we throw away.

Recycling and waste management is another Lions environmental service area. Lions International encourages projects that conserve resources and reduce waste and even provides resources to help clubs promote reducing, reusing and recycling. 

Simple habits can add up:

• Reduce unnecessary waste. 
• Reuse items whenever possible. 
• Recycle appropriate materials. 
• Keep litter out of parks, roadsides and waterways. 
• Encourage children and young people to care for their surroundings. 
• Participate in community cleanup and beautification projects. 

Environmental responsibility is something everyone can practice.

Cleaning up a park helps today. Teaching someone why protecting that park matters can help for years to come.

That is why environmental awareness, education and advocacy are also part of the Lions environmental mission. Lions International encourages clubs to educate their communities about environmental issues and inspire positive action. 

Children and young people can be especially important partners. Tree planting, recycling programs, school beautification projects and community cleanups can help teach the next generation that protecting our environment is everyone's responsibility.

Environmental service is ultimately about protecting our home.

Lions service projects around the world demonstrate how local volunteers can address environmental challenges through practical action, including tree care, cleanup and restoration, recycling and education.
